Some advantages of living in South East Queensland are the amazing beaches an hour's drive on either side of Brisbane.  The current holidays have been a wonderful break so far from the busyness of school both for me and my children, but after a week being housebound and watching my poor husband give me a wistful (resentful?) peck on the forehead as he left for work each morning, we were all itching to do some exploring.

Winter really is the calmest time of year here in our corner of the world, with swathes of blue sky stretching on day after day, and even temperatures hovering in the low 20s.  Who needs another excuse for a weekend getaway at the coast?

We travelled north past the Glasshouse Mountains and arrived at our Alexandra Headland accommodation, the Meridian Alex Beach Apartments, complete with ocean views.  The boys enjoyed taking their scooters up and down the path, and we strolled along the beach in the late afternoon, before heading up to Mooloolaba for dinner.

Although we've been living in the area for seven years now, this is the first time we have checked out the famous Eumundi Markets.  Open from 7am - 2pm Every Saturday, it has everything you would imagine to find in hundreds of different stalls, from hand woven hammocks and dreamcatchers, to craft and reiki massage.  The toughest part was negotiating the narrow walkways alongside hundreds of other shoppers.

We, in our usual travel modus operandi, headed straight for the street food section.  I can never go past the chicken curry and sizzling roti.  With wi-fi limited, the kids bought some old school wooden toys, which we took back to the apartment and spent a couple hours versing each other, improving our strategies to win.

With Noosa only half an hour further up the coast, on Sunday we decided to take a tiki-tour and enjoy some time on this beautiful sheltered beach watching the swimmers and surfers.  The waves are gentler here than some other places, and it is very family friendly.  At the end of the day, with sandy feet, it was time to pack up and head home.

Noosa - someone forgot to tell these people it's actually the middle of winter.
